Have you ever done watercolour painting with kids? Last year my daughter and I did watercolour painting for the first time. It was so fun.
We got some pental watercolour pencils and Sylvia drew her own pictures the painted over them with the brush and they turned out so beautiful.
Today we have a different take on watercolour painting using the Sharpie pen. It's fun and easy to do and perfect for little ones. I really hope you love this idea! Enjoy.

🖌️ How To Make This DIY Watercolour Activity
- Step 1: Download and print out the easter egg template. Colour the paint tray cavities with Sharpie markers.
- Step 2: Fill each paint tray cavity with rubbing alcohol. (The more alcohol that you add, the lighter your paint colour will be)

💡 Pro Tip: Practice decorating on a plastic or practice egg first—this helps children get comfortable with rotating and handling the curved surface smoothly.
🧑🎨 Expert Tips
- Analogous Colors: Suggest using analogous colors (colors next to each other on the color wheel) for a harmonious and soothing effect on their egg designs.
- Grip Adjustment: Encourage children to shift their grip slightly as they rotate the egg to maintain steady hand pressure without smudging or slipping.
- Palm Stabilizing: Suggest holding the egg in one palm while working with the other hand—this improves stability and prevents accidental drops.
- Wrist Rotation: Teach kids to rotate the egg using their wrist rather than turning their whole arm, supporting better control over fine adjustments.
- Surface Anchoring: Place the egg in a shallow cup or cardboard ring to keep it still while applying finer detailing, especially near rounded curves.
- Hand Resting: Let kids rest their drawing hand against the table or their non-dominant hand to reduce strain and improve accuracy during application.

Yes, working around curves helps develop slow, careful strokes. It encourages patience and teaches them how to guide tools deliberately.
They observe that angles and tilts easily shift on round objects, and they learn to stabilize their movements when applying lines or color.
