Where Did the Teddy Bear Get It’s Name?

According to online sources and Wikipedia, the Teddy Bear name comes from the United States President Theodore Roosevelt.

Back in 1902 Roosevelt was invited on a hunting trip with the Mississippi Governor Andrew Longino. President Roosevelt had the nickname of “Teddy” and during the hunt he refused to harm a bear, resulting in the term “teddy bear.”

Teddy Bear Stitches, Eyes and Smile

  • Roll out 2 black fondant circles, about ¼ of an inch in size. Place both just above the one inch circle – they will act as the bear’s eyes.
  • Roll out one small black fondant strip and give it an arch. Place just underneath the nose – this will act as the bear’s smile.
  • Use a paring knife to score little lines down the middle of the round fondant base. These will act as the bear’s “sewed stitches.”
  • Optional: brush some water on the back of the fondant pieces to help secure them on the cookie.
