This week Sylvia and I made some special Valentines Love Stones for my husband John.
I've been wanting to do some rock painting with Sylvia for sometime and with Valentines Day only a few weeks away it was the perfect opportunity to do a fun Valentines craft together.

💖 Why You'll Love This Craft
- Heartfelt Creations: Kids will love painting heart shapes and sweet messages on smooth rocks, making their creations perfect for Valentine’s Day gifts.
- Colorful Designs: From red and pink hearts to fun doodles and sparkles, the possibilities for vibrant, eye-catching designs are endless.
- Keepsake Gifts: Once finished, these love stones can be given as Valentine’s gifts, kept as souvenirs, or even used as decorations around the house for a burst of love!
🎨 Supplies Needed
We purchased a large bag of cobble stones from a hardware store so we have plenty of stones to use in the coming weeks. Y
You can collect them at a local beach or go searching for stones if your on a budget but with my health as it currently is, buying them was the best method for us.
You can also purchase Posca Paint pens or chalkola pens from a local art store or Amazon.
🖌️How to Make Painted Rocks Valentines Stones
We used some pens and decided to design our own love hearts. I let Sylvia use her imagination and draw whatever she wanted.
My daughter really enjoyed this mini project and it really didn't take too long to complete.
Sylvia came up with the idea of adding spots and dots to the hearts and then adding words.
I'm hoping in the coming weeks and months to create some Story stones so this for us was a great first attempt to draw on stones.
Yes it was a basic and simple activity and we kind of invented it as we have never seen Valentines stones before but we wanted to make something unique for my husband.
We will be giving John these stones on Valentines and he can place them on his desk as paperweights to remind him of how much we love him.
We then went on to design some other stones as Sylvia currently has an interest in playing doctors.
She drew a white cross and coloured one in green, creating a first aid stone which was rather imaginative.
I'm looking forward to doing more stone art with Sylvia and I think the more we practice the better we will get.
It sure was a fun activity and can be done at very little cost.
Happy Valentines Day! We Hope You love this easy rock painting idea!

💡 Pro Tip: Turn the love stones into a fun Valentine’s game by hiding them around the house or garden for a treasure hunt. Kids can search for stones with different messages, making it a creative and interactive experience!
🧑🎨 Expert Tips
- Choose Smooth Stones: Start with smooth, flat stones for a clean surface to paint on. River rocks or craft stones work well because they offer a consistent shape for decorating.
- Use Bright Paint Colors: Pick red, pink, white, and gold for your Valentine’s theme. These colors capture the essence of love and will make your love stones stand out. Don’t forget to add some glitter for extra sparkle!
- Consider Different Designs: Encourage kids to get creative with the designs. You can paint hearts, love words, or even small drawings like arrows or roses. This allows for personalized and unique stones.
- Seal the Paint for Durability: Once the stones are painted, seal them with a clear acrylic spray to protect the designs from chipping or fading. This also helps them last longer if they’re used as keepsakes.
- Add a Personal Touch: Write love notes or messages on the stones for a more meaningful project. These can be used as little gifts, hidden surprises, or even as part of a Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt.
- Use Different Brushes for Detail: Use fine-tipped brushes for intricate details like small lettering or patterns. This helps ensure clean lines and neat designs.
