Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. Not only does everyone get to dress up, but you can have a huge party filled with spooky treats, crafts, and haunted decor. My favorite things to whip up at these parties are these Halloween Cheese Ball Bat Bites. They look like little bats, but they are really delicious cheese balls. And, you this recipe allows you to make several little bat cheese balls so everyone isn't trying to devour the same cheese ball at once.

🌈 Substitutions and Variations
- Cheese blend: Mix in shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese with the cream cheese for added flavor.
- Coating options: Instead of crushed tortilla chips, roll the cheese balls in crushed nuts or black sesame seeds for a different texture.
- Vegetable eyes: Use sliced black olives or small cherry tomatoes as alternatives to green olives for the bat eyes.
🔪 How To Make Halloween Cheese Ball
- Step 1: In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the cream cheese and mozzarella cheese, and mix well. Slice the green olives, these will represent the eyes.
- Step 2: Break the tortilla chips into small triangles, these will represent the bat ears. You’ll also need about ⅓ cup of crushed tortilla chips. Place chips in a large bag and smash with a rolling pin until finely crushed.
- Step 3: Scoop out a spoonful of cream cheese mixture and roll it into a 1-inch ball. Place the cheese ball in the crushed tortilla chips and cover entirely. Repeat the step until you have 10 balls.
- Step 4: On each ball, place on 2 olive eyes and push in 2 triangle chips, one on each side. Your Halloween bats are ready to plate. Serve and Enjoy!
👩🍳 Expert Tips
- Use Room-Temperature Cream Cheese: Let the cream cheese sit at room temperature for 15–20 minutes before mixing. This makes it easier to blend and creates a smoother texture.
- Double-Coat for Extra Crunch: For a crispier coating, roll the cheese balls in crushed tortilla chips, then lightly press them into the chips again for a thicker, crunchier layer.
- Experiment with Different Coatings: Instead of tortilla chips, try finely crushed blue corn chips for a darker bat look or use crushed cheese crackers for a bold orange effect.
💭 FAQs
Keep them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just hold off on adding the pretzel wings until serving so they don’t get soft.
Yes! You can prep the cheese balls a day or two in advance. Just roll them in crushed crackers or nuts and chill. Add eyes and pretzels right before your party starts.
No pretzels? No problem! Try tortilla chips, crackers cut into triangles, or even sliced veggies like cucumbers or bell peppers for a fun twist.
Dab a tiny bit of cream cheese on the back of the candy eyes and press them gently into the cheese ball. They’ll stick and give your bats some serious personality!
