What Is A Pirate?

A pirate is a person who commits robbery or other criminal acts at sea. The most common type of pirate is the one who sails on a ship and attacks other ships. Pirates have been around for centuries and their history is very interesting.

Did You Know?

Pirates didn’t always wear eye patches and peg legs. This was only popularized in movies and books. In reality, most pirates dressed like regular people. They only wore their costumes when they were going to commit a robbery.

Famous Pirates

Some of the most famous pirates include:

Blackbeard: He was an English pirate who operated around the West Indies and the eastern coast of Britain’s American colonies. He was one of the most feared pirates of his time.

Anne Bonny: She was an Irish pirate who operated in the Caribbean. She is one of the few female pirates in history.

Bartholomew Roberts: He was a Welsh pirate who operated in the Caribbean and along the coast of South America. He was one of the most successful pirates of his time.

Henry Morgan: He was a Welsh pirate who operated in the Caribbean. He eventually became the Lieutenant Governor of Jamaica.

What Do Pirates Look Like?

Pirates usually dress in all black. They wear black pants, black shirts, and black hats. They also often have a skull and crossbones on their flag.
