When Is Earth Day?
Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd. It is the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
If you’re looking for Earth day activities for kids, you’ll love this Happy Earth / Sad Earth printable! It involves coloring and cutting - two essential skills for preschoolers.

🖌️ How To Make This Earth Day Craft for Preschoolers
- Step 1: Download and print out two copies of the Earth Day printable template. Use crayons to colour the template.
- Step 2: Cut the template pieces out.
- Step 3: Add four velcro dots to the Earth. (refer to the photo) Two dots will go where you want to put the eyes, one where you want to put the mouth and one where you want to put the heart/bandaid.
- Step 4: Add the other side of the velcro dots to the back side of the template pieces.
- Step 5: Stick the velcro pieces together. If you are only making one Earth, your little one can have fun changing the pieces of the face. Cut the arm/leg piece from the template.
- Step 6: Trace the template onto green or blue card stock. Trace and cut out eight pieces. Fold each arm/leg piece in an accordion shape (refer to the photo below).
- Step 7: Glue the arms and legs onto the Earth.
Your Earth Day activity is completed!

Hi Liz, the template needs printing out two times if using directly. If using as a template then you can trace around the eye template twice so there does not need to be two eyes included.

Great post! This year, for Earth Day, I had artists from a local outside Sculpture museum come to the school where I work to talk about the recycling they do as part of their program. I will be looking at following some of these suggestions for myself in 2022. Thanks for the suggestions!
