This week I had the loveliest little crafting session with my niece Eve. We decided to personalise my water bottle using Cricut Smart Vinyl Permanent Rainbow Shimmer and my Cricut Explore 4, and honestly, it turned out so gorgeous I can’t stop looking at it!
Sometimes the simplest projects end up being the most joyful, and this one was full of colour, sparkle, giggles, and that magical feeling you get when a handmade idea finally comes to life.

- Weeding tool
- Transfer tape
- Cricut Design Space
- Scraper tool
- Clean water bottle
- A crafting buddy (optional… but recommended!)
💡 A Fun Afternoon with Eve
Eve was so excited to help pick out the font and design. She loves anything rainbow, so the shimmer vinyl was instantly the winner.
We spent a little time choosing a layout that would look good on a curved bottle, and she proudly told me she thinks she’s becoming a Cricut expert!
Crafting with kids always adds a bit of extra fun, their enthusiasm is infectious, and it turns a simple DIY into a sweet memory.
Step 1: Create Your Name Design
We opened Cricut Design Space and typed out my name.
Here’s what we did:
- Picked a font that was bold enough to show off the shimmer.
- Adjusted the size so it would sit neatly on the bottle.
- Used simple, clean lettering so the rainbow detail could really shine.
The design took just a few minutes, and then we were ready to cut.
Step 2: Cutting the Vinyl
We loaded the Smart Vinyl Rainbow Shimmer directly into the machine (one of the perks of Smart Vinyl — no mat needed!).
The Cricut Explore 4 handled the cut beautifully. Eve loved watching it work; she kept leaning in to see the letters appear.
Step 3: Weeding the Design
This is the moment the magic happens.
Using the weeding tool, we carefully removed all the extra vinyl around the letters. The shimmer sparkles differently with every tiny move, it’s so satisfying to uncover each piece.
Eve took charge of the “big bits” of weeding and did a fantastic job.
Step 4: Transfer Tape Time
Next, we placed a piece of transfer tape over the name design and smoothed it down with the scraper tool.
This step helps lift the vinyl letters from the backing so you can move the whole design to your bottle in one go.
Make sure there are no bubbles, Eve was in charge of the smoothing, and she took her job very seriously!
Step 5: Stick It to the Bottle
Before sticking, I cleaned the bottle so the vinyl would adhere well.
We positioned the name carefully, pressed it down, and slowly peeled away the transfer tape.
And just like that, the most beautiful rainbow shimmer name label appeared.
The colours shift in the light, blues, pinks, greens, a perfect little rainbow.

I absolutely love how this turned out.

- And it makes my water bottle look SO much more fun.
Eve was thrilled with the result and kept turning the bottle to see the rainbow sparkle from different angles.
