Octopus Cupcakes And Baking With Kids Tips

I’ve always enjoyed baking with kids. In fact I think my passion for creative cupcake ideas comes from my own childhood experiences where I often baked and had fun cupcake decorating with my Mum and sister.

This week we are sharing some fun Octopus Cupcakes to go with our Under the Sea theme here on the blog. These Octopus cupcakes are the perfect treat for kids and are something you can make together for fun or as an ocean themed party.

What Is The Best Way To Melt Chocolate When Baking With Kids?

When I was a little girl I would always help my mum to melt chocolate over the stove. We placed chocolate into a bowl and then the bowl into a pan of boiling water. Mum would supervise and help us to know when the chocolate was ready.

In fact I will never forget the time my sister and I attempted to make a cake for my Mum’s birthday. We were 4 and 5 years at the time and we placed a whole lot of ingredients into a plastic bowl, placed it over the stove and turned the ring on. Everything melted and whilst we couldn’t understand why mum would be so upset at us, I sure understand now. The stove was covered in melted plastic and her best bowl ruined.

The most traditional way to melt chocolate would be to do so over the stove. Now we have the microwave it can be much easier and quicker to place chocolate melts into a microwave or you could opt for a Wilton Melting Pot which is an absolutely fantastic way to melt chocolate. It’s much easier and can be a safer option when decorating cupcakes and baking with kids.

    1. My mum really enjoyed making with us and I am enjoying passing this passion on to my daughter when I am well enough to do so.

  2. Such great tips. I’ve been baking with my daughter for several years. While it was more work in the beginning due to the extra messes and clean up.. it is so worth it now. I saved this recipe to her Pinterest board because at 11yr old she is a baking master ! She will enjoy making these ! Thanks
