Can I Cook Boil In The Bag Rice In The Instant Pot?

The boil in the bag rice can be prepared outside of the bag just as you would regular white rice. The boil in a bag concept is that the rice only absorbs the water it needs and you can easily strain the rest of it because there are holes in the bag. Cook this rice by following the directions below.

Instant Pot Rice Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 cup of white rice
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • Dried parsley for garnish

How To Cook Rice In Instant Pot

Step 2: Add 1 cup of rice, then pour 1 cup of water over rice.

Step 3: Secure lid on instant pot and set the seal.

Step 5: Next, let your instant pot count down and steam the rice for about 10-minutes, then quick release the remaining steam, fluff rice and serve.

Exactly How Long Should I Cook My Rice?

Altitude, or where you live, plays a big role in how long you should cook your rice. So, if the recipe you find doesn’t quite work the way it did for someone else, it may be due to where you live.

If you found the rice to be dry or got a burn notice, try taking a couple minutes off. If you open your pressure cooker and fine that there is water not absorbed by the rice, you will want to cook it a minute or 2 longer.

Additionally, if you are cooking a large amount of rice, you may want to add another minute or 2 to the time.

Other Instant Pot Rice Times

If you are cooking something other than long grain white rice, here are the cooking times:

  • Basmati (white) rice: 4-8 minutes
  • Jasmine rice: 3-5 minutes
  • Brown rice (long/short): 22-28 minutes
  • Wild rice mix: 25-30 minutes

Can I Use My Rice Button?

The rice button is not for all rice. It was designed for the ever-popular parboiled or long grain white rice. The setting automatically adjusts the time based on the volume of rice you add to the inner pot. So, you don’t have to put any guess work into it.

Can I Cook More than 1 Cup of Rice?

If you want to cook more than 1 cup of rice, you can. The key to cooking perfect rice is cooking it using the 1:1 ratio method. For example, if you want to make 2 cups of rice, you will need to cups of water. If want to make 3 cups of rice, you will need 3 cups of water. The reason this method works for any rice is because all rice absorbs the same amount of liquid when cooking.

If you are not using enough water, you may end up with the dreaded burn notice, or worse dry, crunchy rice.

NEVER fill your Instant Pot more than half full with rice and water!

My Rice is Sticking to the Bottom

Did you do a quick release or a natural release? One of the reasons rice will stick to the bottom is because you have to let the pressure go down slowly instead of abruptly. You want to at least do a natural release for 10-minutes.

Was your keep warm button on? The heat from the keep warm function can continue to cook the rice during your natural release. Be sure to turn off your keep warm function to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom.
