Vegetable Caterpillar Kitchen Fun

vegetable caterpillar

Two weeks ago I announced a new category on the blog Kitchen Fun and my hope to create some fun ideas for kids and with my daughter. Last week we scooped and carved melons and this week we created some creatures from vegetables.

vegetable Caterpillar

I really wasn’t sure what we were going to make. Sylvia and I discussed snails and ladybirds but in the end, we went for a Caterpillar. We used tomatoes, sliced cucumber and black olives joining the veg together with cocktail sticks.

babybell cheese

We also made some Babybel flowers. We cut out the stalks from cucumber and created the flower shape using a cheese knife. Again a very simple idea but very effective.

Butterfly

Finally we created a butterfly from cucumber with olive eyes and pepper add to the effect, however my husband joined in and added the flowers to the butterfly and made it into a crab. I kind of liked his idea better. I guess this must have a creative streak too.

I’m no expert and we are in our early days of experimenting and creating fun foods we can eat afterwards. I’m pleased with our progress so far and hope you like our designs.
