Today on the blog we have some fantastic Snowman Cookies. It's been snowing a little here in Lancashire which has been lovely for my daughter, however, we've not had enough snow to build a snowman. That hasn't stopped the festive season however and these lovely snowman sugar cookies are one way to celebrate the winter season.

🌈 Substitutions and Variations
- Cookie base: Use gingerbread or oatmeal cookies for a different flavor.
- Frosting options: Try cream cheese or colored frosting for variety.
- Ear muffs: Swap licorice with thin pretzel sticks or candy canes.
- Eyes and nose: Use raisins, currants, or small candies.
- Mouth: Arrange red licorice strings or colored sprinkles into a smile.
🔪 How To Make Snowman Cookies

- Step 1: Bake the cookies per package directions, let cool, and frost them.

- Step 2: Cut 3-4 inch pieces of the licorice and press one on the top half edge of each cookie. Put a lifesaver on the end of each licorice piece so they look like earmuffs.

- Step 3: Place 2 eyes and an orange candy nose on each cookie. Press 5-6 chocolate chips under the orange nose to look like a smiley face.

- Step 4: You now have a super cute and fun treat to share with the family and kids.

👩🍳 Expert Tips
- Chill that dough! Cold dough = cleaner cuts and no melty snowmen.
- Outline first, flood later. Let the icing set between steps for crisp lines and zero color bleed.
- Add candy details last. Eyes, noses, and buttons go on once the icing’s just tacky—so they don’t slide off!
💭 FAQs
To keep your Snowman Sugar Cookies fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. Avoid refrigerating, as this can cause the decorations to become moist and colors to bleed.
Yes, you can use homemade sugar cookie dough. Ensure the cookies are baked and cooled completely before decorating to prevent the frosting from melting.
If black rope licorice is unavailable, you can substitute it with thin strips of black fondant or black string candy to create the earmuff band.
If edible eyes or carrot-shaped candies aren't accessible, consider using small chocolate chips for the eyes and an orange sprinkle or a small piece of orange gummy candy for the nose.
💖 Serving Suggestions
These are my favorite treats to serve with snowman sugar cookies:
- Hot cocoa: A classic pairing—warm, chocolatey goodness that complements the sweetness of the cookies.
- Peppermint bark: The minty crunch adds a festive flair and contrasts nicely with the soft cookies.
- Mini marshmallow skewers: Fun and fluffy, they echo the snow theme and are delightful to nibble on.

super cute! And while I do like to bake from scratch, I kinda like that this uses already made ingredients. I prefer to use already made things when doing crafts/activities with the kids. It's so much work as it is without having to make everything.
