Educational Resources
Of course, when it comes to doing crafts and activities with kids, it is always a good idea to put a little educational twist in there. Here are some things you can do with this watermelon craft to make it educational:
- Practice counting: Once the craft is finished, you can have the kids count the watermelon seeds that they drew. Or, you can give them a number of seeds they must put on their watermelon.
- Do some gardening: After you do your craft, eat a real watermelon and take the seeds out to the garden to plant. Talk about seeds, germination, and the science behind the plant. Here is a great article to help you!
- Read a book. Books go great with crafts. In fact, you can probably find a book for any craft that you do. The Watermelon Seed by Seira Wilson is a great one to go with this watermelon craft.
- Identify Letters and Sounds: Watermelon is a great way to introduce your little one to the letter “W.” This worksheet helps little ones identify pictures that begin with “W” and they can practice their handwriting skills.
There are lots of ways you can add to this craft and make it educational.
