🖌️ Let's Make These Butterfly Craft Love Bugs
I will now share step by step instructions for making these super cute butterfly love bugs.
- Step 1: Take two large foam hearts and two small foam hearts and glue the small hearts onto the larger hearts with your super glue to make decorative butterfly wings.
- Step 2: Once your hearts have dried, it’s time to glue your hearts onto your wine cork to make those butterfly wings part of your Wine Cork Butterfly.
- Step 3: Next, take your googly eyes and glue them onto your wine cork. I suggest placing them at the end with the corkscrew hole.
- Step 4: While you’re waiting for your wine cork butterfly to dry, take your pipe cleaners and cut them into butterfly antennas. Once your wine cork butterfly has finished drying, take your pipe cleaners and stick them into the cork. If you make the head of the butterfly at the end you inserted your wine corkscrew into the cork, you should have a little hole to stick your pipe cleaners into easily.
- Step 5: If not, stick a needle into the cork to make a hole. And just like that, you have cute and adorable DIY Wine Cork Butterflies!

💡 Pro Tip: For better grip during painting, insert a toothpick into the bottom of the cork and hold it upright using a modeling clay base for stability and ease.
🧑🎨 Expert Tips
- Surface Prep: Lightly sand the cork to remove residue and smooth uneven areas so paint or marker designs adhere without flaking later.
- Vertical Positioning: Stand the cork upright while decorating so you can control the layout of features like eyes, dots, or color bands accurately.
- Body Shading: Add gradient coloring from top to bottom using light-to-dark tones to mimic a natural butterfly thorax and enhance depth.
- Face Features: Use small adhesive googly eyes and draw a curved smile just below them to give the cork a cheerful, character-driven look.
- Segment Striping: Paint or draw faint horizontal lines around the cork body to suggest segments, giving it an insect-like, realistic texture.
- Antennae Insertion: Twist short wires or pipe cleaner ends, then push them gently into pre-made holes at the top of the cork for stable antennae.
