7 Ways to Optimise Your Time in Lego Fortnite
Lego Fortnite was not the game mode we expected Epic to bring to the Fortnite franchise, but it’s definitely one that we thank them for. As it lets us revel in the phenomenal design capabilities of the studio without needing to dive into the intensity of Battle Royale. Of course, we love our fair share of Fortnite—especially after we bought Fortnite V-Bucks to start playing with the new Fortnite skins. And Lego Fortnite is a great game for exactly that.
Lego Fortnite has been out for a while now. And over that time fans have been building, adventuring and dying a lot. I mean A LOT. Whether you’re a seasoned Fortnite veteran coming back for the mode, a lover of survival sandboxes or simply just a newcomer, this guide is for you. As mastering these seven things will give you an immediate head-start in the world of Lego Fortnite.
Be Smart with Your Base
Lego Fortnite, like other survival sims, is about base building. This means that you’re going to be spending a lot of time building, optimizing, and developing your base. Thus, it’s important to start out strong.
First off, pick a nice location for your base. Somewhere that is easy to get to and provides plenty of opportunity to travel in different directions.
Second, think modularly. Build structures in ways where they can be easily expanded. You’ll continue to build out your base throughout much of the game, so having enough space will help a lot.
Finally, use prefabs. While you can build everything exactly as you like it, piece by piece, the build menu offers plenty of complete structures (prefabs) that you can simply drop into your base. These can save you tonnes of time, especially if you’re unsure about the form you want your base to take.
Get Crafting
Drawing on Minecraft, Lego Fortnite has a complex crafting system that lets you refine, combine and craft various materials into useful weapons, tools and gadgets. While it has a bit of a learning curve, the crafting system is one of the best ways to upgrade your loadout and give you an advantage when exploring the world.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Fortnite has two types of teammates—NPCs and other players.
Once you’ve built your camp, NPCs will begin to visit. And as you level up your camp further these villagers will multiply offering plenty of utility both in and out of camp. Be sure to maximise the potential of these NPCs. Taking them along with you on long expeditions to help with gathering materials and fighting enemies.
Playing online is also a great way to upgrade your experience. As more players means more opportunities to gather resource, more damage to take down foes and more brains to figure out the complex world. Not only that, but playing with friends can also be way more fun.
Don’t Shy Away From Combat
The map is littered with different biomes, resources, hidden chests and more. But what if I told you that fighting enemies might be one of your best ways to get resources. Just craft yourself some good weapons and amour, then start going to town on anyone that attacks you. Not only will this bring you plenty of excitement, but enemies often drop rare items or gear, making it a great way to get your hands on rare resources.
Dodge like it’s Dark Souls
When you start out, combat can feel really tough. But what if I told you that there was a tool in your arsenal to make it a whole lot easier: the roll. Yes, rolling is one of the most effective ways to survive combat encounters as it gets you out of the way of AOE attacks and doesn’t consume any stamina. This means you can spam dodge to protect yourself from even the toughest foes, allowing you to get in a few hits here and there.
Craft Map Markers!
Just like Minecraft, the map in Lego Fortnite is huge, with biomes repeating and expanding as far as your little Lego legs can run. This means that when you find important locations, it can often be very difficult to find them again. To save yourself the hassle of running around in circles, you can craft map markers. These allow you to drop markers that show up on the map, making it easy to return to key areas and helping to navigate the world much faster.
Embrace the Fun!
Remember, Lego Fortnite isn’t trying to be an intense survival game like Minecraft nor is it trying to offer quick moment to moment thrills like Fortnite. If anything, it’s aiming at one thing: light-hearted fun. With that in mind, don’t get too bogged down trying to over-optimise or master Lego Fortnite. Simply let yourself get swept along with the humour and fun of it all—especially if you’re playing with friends. You won’t regret it.
