Top Tips For Moving House

There are many benefits associated with moving house. For example, it could provide you with a fresh start, where you can pursue new career options or simply embrace a change of scenery. However, with 6 in 10 adults claiming that moving house is “the most stressful life event” they have ever experienced, you must be prepared for what you’re getting yourself in for.

The main reason why moving house is stressful is because you have so much to do. Not only do you have to get your current home ready for the market, but you must also pack up your belongings, attend viewings and find your new dream home.

However, with proper organisation, moving house can be a breeze. Here are some top tips to get you started!

Contents

  • Carry out some home renovations
  • Have a chat with your kids
  • Pack sooner, rather than later.
  • Have a clear idea of what you are looking for, but be realistic.

Carry out some home renovations

If you’re looking to sell your house for more money, then carrying out some simple renovations is a great way to get started.

This is because it will help you find the right buyer sooner rather than later, meaning that you won’t have to wait months on end for a sale to go through. As a result, the entire process will run seamlessly, and you won’t have to delay your move due to poor finances.

Have a chat with your kids

There are various challenges associated with moving when you have small children. For example, you’ll have to help them come to terms with change, especially if they have to start a new school or leave behind their friends.

As such, the easiest way to keep calm while moving home with kids is to involve them in the conversation sooner, rather than later.

Don’t spring the move on them last minute, as this will only result in more upset. Talk to them about the benefits of moving, and let them see the new house ahead of the big day.

Pack sooner, rather than later.

Nobody likes packing (unless you’re prepping for a holiday), which means it’s the kind of task that’s often pushed to the bottom of your to-do list.

However, this will only result in more stress further down the line, especially as last-minute packing increases the chances of you breaking or misplacing something. As such, you should aim to start packing sooner rather than later.

If you don’t have access to your new property right away, you could hire out some large storage units to store your belongings in until moving day.

Have a clear idea of what you are looking for, but be realistic.

When shopping for a new home, you must be realistic. For example, most of us can’t afford a million pound mansion (as nice as that would be). Instead, write down a list of everything you need in a home (such as a specific number of bedrooms, bathrooms etc), alongside some things you would like (a large garden, luxury tech).

This will make it easier to shop around. Remember, you could also save a great deal of money if you buy a house that needs a little work, as you can always make those dream renovations at a later date.
