The Power Of Play for physical development

When children play, they are using their muscles and bones to move around, jump, run, and more. This physical activity helps to develop their gross motor skills and coordination.

Playing is a great way for kids to get some exercise. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, childhood obesity rates have more than tripled in the past 30 years. Getting kids involved in activities like running, playing tag, or riding a bike can help them stay at a healthy weight and avoid obesity-related health problems like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Play helps your child develop mentally.

As children play, they are using their imaginations to come up with new ideas and solutions to problems. This helps to develop their critical thinking skills and creativity.

Through play, children learn important skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and cooperation. They also develop their imagination and creativity. These skills are essential not only in school but also in life.

Play helps your child develop emotionally.

As children interact with others during play, they are learning to communicate, express their feelings, and resolve conflicts. This helps to develop their social and emotional skills.

Play provides children with a chance to express their feelings and work through emotions like happiness, sadness, anger, and fear. This can help them develop healthy coping skills and avoid emotional problems later in life.

Play helps your child develop spiritually.

As children explore the world around them through play, they are learning about themselves, their place in the world, and their relationship with God. This helps to develop their spiritual life.

So as you can see, play is an essential part of your child’s development. It’s not just about preparing them for school or their future, but it’s also about helping them grow in all areas of their life.

If you’re looking for ways to help your child develop, consider incorporating more play into their day. There are endless possibilities for how you can do this, so get creative and have fun! Your child will thank you for it.

Ideas For Encouraging Play At Home

If you’re wondering what you can do to encourage play in the home, why not try one of the following:

Get outside!

Go for a walk, ride bikes, play in the park, or explore your backyard. Fresh air and sunshine are great for both you and your child. Kids can have fun helping walk the dog, planting a garden, or washing the family car.

Set up an indoor play area

This can be as simple as putting a blanket on the floor and adding some toys. Or you could get more creative and use household items to create an obstacle course or set up a bowling alley

Create an indoor scavenger hunt.

Hide toys around the house and let your child search for them. This is a great way to encourage movement and get them thinking critically.

Put on some music and dance!

This is a great way to get active and have fun at the same time. As an early years teacher, the little ones always loved dancing to fun songs such as the Linda Adamson “Love To Sing” collection.

Have a family game night

Board games, card games, and even video games can be a great way to spend time together as a family. Not only will you get to bond with your child, but you’ll also get to teach them important skills like taking turns and being a good sport.

Make up a game together.

Use your imagination to come up with something new and exciting. It doesn’t have to be complicated, just something that you can enjoy together.

Build a fort out of blankets and pillows.

This is a great way to encourage creativity and use of imagination. Grab some blankets and pillows and let your child build the fort of their dreams. Then, have some fun playing inside it!

There are endless possibilities for ways to encourage play at home. The important thing is that you make time for it. With a busy family life, it can be easy to forget about the importance of play. But trust me, your child will thank you for it.

Play with toys together.

This is a great way to bond with your child and help them develop important skills. As you play with toys together, you can help them learn about shapes, colors, and sizes. You can also teach them how to follow directions and solve problems.

Make up a story together.

This is a great way to encourage your child’s imagination. As you make up a story together, you can help them develop their creative thinking skills. When my daughter was young I would create adventures and stories with her when we went swimming together.

Read stories together.

This is a great way to promote literacy and a love for reading. Stories are fun to read together, and they can also help your child learn new words.

Sing songs together.

This is a great way to promote language development. As you sing songs together, you can help your child learn new words and improve their communication skills.

Draw pictures together.

This is a great way to encourage creativity and self-expression. As you draw pictures together, you can help your child develop their fine motor skills.

Puzzles and block towers.

This is a great way to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. As you work on puzzles and block towers together, you can help your child learn how to think critically and solve problems.

Cook together.

This is a great way to encourage creativity and teach your child about healthy eating. As you cook together, you can help your child learn about different foods and how to prepare them. You can also teach them about healthy eating habits.

Do some arts and crafts together.

This is a great way to express creativity and have fun at the same time. As you do arts and crafts together, you can help your child learn about different colors and materials. You can also teach them how to follow directions and be creative.

Go on an adventure!

Explore your neighborhood, visit a nearby park, or take a trip to the library. This is a great way to get out and about with your child.

Encouraging play is a great way to help your child develop physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. So make an effort to incorporate more play into your child’s day today!
