The Isle of the Lost
A Descendants Novel by Melissa de la Cruz -Disney
Sylvia and I are part of the Parragon Book Buddies Scheme, where we get to read and review a new book every month. This month we had the opportunity to read, The Isle of the Lost – a Disney Descendants novel which I’d heard was one of this year’s must reads!
The Isle of the lost is written by Melissa de la Cruz and is the spell-binding prequel to Disney Descendants, A Disney Channel Original Movie that is coming to the UK this Autumn.
Twenty years before the novel begins, all Disney villains had been banished from the Kingdom of Auradon and made to live in virtual imprisonment on the Isle of the Lost. The island is surrounded by a magical force field that keeps the villains and their descendants safely locked up and away from the mainland.
The story features 4 main characters, Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay who are trying to proove themselves and live up to their wicked parents expectations, the parents being Maleficent, The Evil queen, Jafar and Cruella.
The book is extremely interesting and not only tells the story of what became of many of Disney’s villains, it also teaches the importance of being yourself rather than being what others want you to be.
My daughter and I have enjoyed reading this book together and enjoyed learning about both the villains and about the good characters ie Belle and King Beast and their son Ben. It took a while for us to get into the story but once we got to grips with the first few chapters it became an exciting read that my daughter looked forward to reading it each night!
In fact we are now looking forward to seeing the Disney Descendants Movie when it comes out and hope to read more of the Disney Descendants books that are planned as part of the series.
As a parent and previous teacher, I’d recommend the book for children in the age bracket 8-12 years and older.
Disney Descendants: The Isle of the Lost is available at Amazon, Asda, The Disney Store, Easons, HMV, Scholastic, Tesco, Waterstones and WHSmith,
Thanks to the team over at Parragon for sending us such an amazing book to read and we look forward to reading another exciting “older kids” book next month.
