The Microsoft 70-346 exam, Managing Office 365 Identities and Requirements, is aimed at those IT professionals who are involved in planning, evaluating, operating, and deploying Office 365 services, including both the supporting and dependent technologies. Replacement of Microsoft 70-346 Exam

On April 30, 2019, Microsoft announced the retirement of the Microsoft 70-346 exam. It was first introduced in February 2014, and five years later, Microsoft finally took it off the table to replace with new certification tests. The company has introduced MS-100: Microsoft 365 Identity and Services.

This exam covers specific role-based skills that the students must be able to develop competence in. They include Designing and Implementing Microsoft 365 Services; Managing User Identity & Roles; Managing Access & Authentication; and Planning Office 365 Workloads & Applications.

Overview of Microsoft MS-100 Exam

Microsoft MS-100 is aimed at the Microsoft 365 Enterprise administrators who are very much involved in planning, evaluating, migrating, managing, and deploying Microsoft 365 services. These individuals carry out Microsoft 365 tenant management tasks for enterprises, such as its identities, compliance, supporting technologies, and security.

The candidates for the exam are expected to possess knowledge of the Microsoft 365 workloads and must have worked in the job role of an administrator. In addition to this, the applicants must understand server administration, networking, and IT fundamentals, such as Active Directory, PowerShell, and DNS.

This certification test counts towards the award of Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert and it is related to the Microsoft MS-101 exam.

Highlights of Microsoft MS-100 Exam Topics

There are some specific skills that will be measured in the Microsoft MS-100 exam, and the candidates are expected to understand and develop hands-on experience in these skills. These abilities have been broken down into topics to make it easier for the examinees to study. There are four broad topics under this certification test and we will look at each of them in detail.

  • Implementing and Designing Microsoft 365 Services – 25-30%

Under this topic, the candidates are required to manage domains in a variety of ways. They must learn to add and configure extra domains and also configure the user identities for new domain names. In addition, they must develop capacity to configure workloads for the new domain name and be able to design domain name configuration. The individuals should have the ability to verify a custom domain and set a primary domain name.

The exam candidates are also required to learn how to plan Microsoft 365 implementation, which includes planning for a Microsoft 365 on-premises infrastructure, as well as planning an identity & authentication solution.

They must also develop competence in setting up a Microsoft 365 tenancy and subscription, which entails configuring subscription and tenant roles, as well as workload settings; evaluating Microsoft 365 for enterprise; planning and creating tenant; upgrading current subscription to Microsoft 365; and monitoring license allocations.

The test takers should also learn to manage a Microsoft 365 subscription and tenant health. This include managing service health alerts; creating and managing service requests; creating internal service for health response plan; monitoring service health; and scheduling and reviewing usage metrics, among others.

  • Managing User Identity & Roles – 35-40%

The candidates should be able to design an identity strategy, which entails measuring the requirements and solutions for synchronization, identity management, and authentication. They should also be able to plan identity synchronization using Azure AD Connect, which includes designing directory synchronization, implementing directory synchronization with federation services, Azure endpoints, and directory services.

Additionally, they should be equipped to manage identity synchronization using Azure AD Connect. This involves monitoring Azure AD Connect Health; managing Azure AD Connect synchronization; configuring object filters; password sync; and implementing multi forest AD Connect scenarios.

The students should also have the capacity to run Azure Active Directory identities, which entail planning Azure AD identities; implementing & managing Azure AD self-service password reset; managing access reviews, groups, passwords, product licenses, users; and performing bulk user management. They also must learn to run user roles, which presupposes planning user roles; allocating roles in workloads; configuring administrative accounts, and RBAC within Azure AD; delegating admin rights; managing admin roles and role allocations using Azure AD; and planning security & compliance roles for Microsoft 365.

  • Managing Access & Authentication – 20-25%

Under this exam topic, the individuals must learn to manage authentication, which covers designing an authentication method; configuring authentication; implementing an authentication method; managing and monitoring authentication. The test takers must also learn to implement Multi Factor Authentication. This includes designing the MFA solution; configuring MDA for users or app; administering MFA users; and reporting MFA utilization.

Additionally, the students must know the process involved in application access configuration, which includes configuring application registration in Azure Active Directory and Azure Active Directory Application. The candidates must also understand how to implement access for the external users of the Microsoft 365 workloads.

  • Planning Office 365 Workloads & Applications – 10-15%

The candidates for this exam must be able to plan the deployment of Office 365 workload, which is identifying hybrid requirements; planning connectivity & data flow for each of the workloads; and planning for Microsoft 365 workload connectivity. The test takers must also have the capacity to plan Office 365 application deployment. This involves managing Office 365 software downloads; planning for Office 365 apps, Office Online, Office 365 ProPlus apps updates, and Office 365 ProPlus connectivity.
