It’s been a while since I wrote an article here on The Inspiration Edit about my personal life, but i wanted to share some new goals and new goal posts that I am setting for my life as things don’t always go as planned and sometimes plans and dreams and goals change.
How Life has changed
Well, 3 years ago, my husband and I decided to work toward moving home to New Zealand. I’m half British and half Kiwi and as most of my family live in New Zealand, I decided it was time to return home.
My daughter Sylvia and I had been living in the UK for over 12 years, during which time, I married John a Yorkshire man and began my career as a blogger.
However after our family holiday to New Zealand in 2019, we set a goal to migrate home and after a lot of bumps along the way including a world pandemic, getting immigration visa’s navigating M1Q and much more, we landed in New Zealand in February last year.
We settled in Auckland and I began a new website called The Instant Pot Table to share recipes using the Instant Pot.
Why I’m Making New Goals
So when we arrived our main goals were to establish a business here in New Zealand, for John to find work, (he became a bus driver) and for Sylvia to start high school. We also planned to live with my parents and eventually build an extension to their property.
A Summer Of Change
However things changed…
That’s right, I sent my daughter to visit her cousins in Dunedin. She did not want to go. In fact she was a little depressed and down in the dumps. We had been locked down for almost two years in the UK and then we got locked down here in New Zealand and it was beginning to take a toll on my child.
My daughter did not know my sister and her 6 kids. She didn’t want to go spend Summer with them but I sent her anyway and it was the best decision ever. Sylvia came out of her shell, she became happy again. All the smiles that has disappeared came back. She was happy once more and built new friendships and relationships with girls her age who are actually family.
And so the phone call came. My Sister told me that Sylvia did not want to come back to Auckland. She wanted to stay with my sister. She wanted to stay with the friends she had made, the family she had discovered and begin her high school years at the same school as her cousin.
A Mother’s Choice
What could I say? I wanted my daughter, I wanted my little girl to come home and be back with me and John but she had discovered something she has never had and that was family her own age. She wanted to be with them so badly and was happy again.
John and I agreed. We allowed our daughter to move to Dunedin which is 16 hours by car or 2 hours by plane. We then decided to change the goal posts and make new goals, the first being to move ourselves down to Dunedin so we could all be together.
Saving For A Home
So we decided instead of saving to extend my parents house, we would save a deposit to buy our own home down in Dunedin. We continued to work hard and save and last month we finally got pre-approval from the bank to get a home loan.
We then began looking at new homes and are still in the process of working towards that.
Other New Goals
So our first new goal was to save a deposit which we did.
Our second goal was to find and buy our first home. This is a work in progress and one we are very close to doing.
The third goal is to live ten to twenty minutes from my sister’s home and Sylvia’s high school.
The fourth goal is for me to get the right medication. I have been working on this for 6 months trialling different meds and trying to find the best medication to help me be as well as I can.
My Fifth goal is to build an extension or work studio once we have our own home so John and I can create recipes from home and he can grow his photography business as I grow my online websites.
The Sixth and final goal is for us to save up for our honeymoon. Yes, we didn’t take a honeymoon when we got married because Sylvia was 5 and in school and we had no money. Instead we said we would go somewhere exciting on our tenth wedding anniversary which is in July 2023, so that’s what we plan to do.
We will Reach Our Goals
I don’t know how long things will take but I’m excited to have new goals, dreams and plans and can’t wait to share with you as things happen and fall into place.
