 Marshmallow Counting Game

Today I have a really fun yet simple counting game which is a great activity for little ones at home or in the preschool. This is easy to make basic maths fun and can help get children counting and learning the numbers.

In this activity, we use marshmallows however you could use other treats or even pom-poms if you wanted to make it a non-food activity. Enjoy.

How to Make This Counting Activity

Begin by writing numbers 1-6 on the assorted clips. You will write one number on each clip using your back marker.

Now, clip one paper cup into each clip.

You can write the numbers on these cups as well, but you don’t have to. We chose to leave ours plain.

Counting Game

Stick the magnets on a metal surface.

They will securely hold the cups out while staying adhered to the metal.

Give each child mini marshmallows.

If you wish, you can use the white paper cups to hold the handful of marshmallows.

Counting Game

Have the child read the number on the clip, and toss that many marshmallows into the cup.

The number in the cup should match the number on the clip.

Counting Game

Switch the game up by giving the child a certain number or marshmallows, allowing them to count them, and then decide which cup they belong in.

Other ways to use this counting activity:

Point out the even/odd cups
Give a simple addition problem that ends in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. Have the child put a marshmallow in the cup that represents the correct answer.

When not in use, simply store the contents in a ziploc bag until needed.

I hope you love this fun activity idea!
