Today we went to the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry to attend the launch of the new Mr Men and Little Miss character book Little Miss Inventor.

We had a fantastic visit to the Museum. We enjoyed listening to the story of Little Miss Inventor. We enjoyed exploring the invention room and beyond. Sylvia really enjoyed her visit to the Science and Industry Museum. In the Little Miss Invention Launch room there were a number of exciting experiments, inventions and creative activities.

The Creative Board

There was a great big board for colouring and creating art which Sylvia really enjoyed. It was a really popular activity and my daughter enjoyed creating her own Little Miss Inventor on the board.

Story and Activity Shed

We listened to the new Little Miss Story which was rather interesting. The story is aimed at younger kids and there was a fun invention shed for little ones to play in. This was perfect for toddlers through to around age 6.

Inventions

Next Sylvia tried out an experiment using glasses which alter your vision and disorientate you. The aim was to simulate how it would feel being in space.

The activity was provided by the University of Leicester. Sylvia’s vision was upside down and she had to try matching jigsaw puzzles with altered vision.

The Marshmallow Experiment

The next experiment was placing marshmallows into a vacuum chamber. Sylvia placed marshmallows into the chamber and the air was sucked out of the chamber.

The pressure on the outside of the marshmallow was lower than the pressure on the inside resulting in the marshmallow increasing in volume causing it to expand. This was a really fun experiment and Sylvia really enjoyed taking assisting.

We enjoyed our visit to the Little Miss Invention launch. Whilst the book and character are aimed at younger kids than my daughter. Sylvia really did enjoy the experiments and loved exploring the experiment section of the Museum after the launch.

We had fun and It was a great afternoon out and about exploring the wacky world of science and inventions. I think Little Miss Inventor is quite an interesting character. Why not check out the book for yourself. The little ones may love it.
