Around a year ago I heard about a new innovative car seat for children called the mifold. The seat sparked my interest due to the size and I loved the concept from the moment I heard about it. This week we were sent our very own mifold car seat to test out. This was perfect timing as we were travelling in a busy car to Blackpool and it was great to not have a big bulky booster in the mix.
The mifold children’s car seat is very innovative. It is 10 times smaller than the average booster seat and is cleverly designed to fold in half making it easy to store and carry around if necessary. When I was a single Mother with a little girl, I did not have a car. I would often take my daughter to church or out and about and when friends offered us a ride home afterwards I was unable to take accept the rides as I did not have a car seat.
Seriously, I had a pushchair, a baby bag, my own handbag and no space to carry a bulky booster too! Had the mifold car seat been around then this would have saved me many bus journeys as I could have slipped the seat into my handbag or Sylvia’s changing bag.
What is different about the mifold car seat?
Well the mifold car seat is designed differently to a regular booster seat which raises a child upwards to fit into an adult seat belt. In fact the mifold seat is designed to do the exact opposite. The mifold actively lowers the adult seat belt to fit a child snugly, taking the belt off the stomach and the neck and making it comfortable safe and easy to use.
Themiifold car seat is designed for children aged 4 all the way through to 12 years. Whilst Sylvia is now at the age and height where is no longer legally required to wear a children’s car seat, this is a great option for her. The seat is less obvious and she see’s it as “cool” rather than a little kiddies booster, enabling us to give that little extra safety for a few more years.
The mifold car seat is great as if folds and can be stored in a few places in the car. If you have more than one child, the car seats can fit next to one another unlike bulky boosters. The seat also only takes the space of one ceat meaning we could fit a whole family into our car without hips and thighs being squashed by a regular booster.
I like that there are a selection of colours to choose from when it comes to the mifold. We went for a pink and a green one. I have a spare and it’s fantastic. When we have two children in the car, we will use both the car seats in one go.
Also, kids can fit the boosters into their school bags. For example when Sylvia is doing cross country at school or going to high school sports, she will be able to take her seat with her when being car pooled home.
I think the mifold is a great invention and am really pleased to have two of these seats for our car. They will sure come in handy and are very easy to use, portable and small enough to store without taking up all the space. UK law requires all children to use a car seat under the age of 12 years or under the height of 135cm.
The mifold is a Group 2/3 seat and can be used by children from the weight of 15kg which is approximately the age of 4 years old. I am really impressed with this car seat and how small and compact it is. Our two seats will be very useful in the future.
