Ignore The Naysayers And Shoot For The Stars

Ignore the Naysayers, Ignore the Naysayers. It’s a phrase I kept having to tell myself over and over again when I first started blogging. In fact as a new blogger people laughed at me. So called friends, said, this was a good hobby but would never bring a viable income.

Some said I was crazy thinking I could build a blog and suggested I focussed on trying to get well enough to have a ‘proper job”. Others said blogging was not a real career option and said I was in cuckoo land.

How wrong were they!

Ignore The Naysayers And Shoot For The Stars

I had a dream, I still have a dream and I set a five year plan. I’m now 3 years and 10 months into my plan and my blog has grown from strength to strength.

I have begun to build my own family lifestyle brand and I now have a good following on social media. It’s currently around 42K.

I have a monthly social media reach in the millions and regularly collaborate and work with popular brands from kids toy companies to entertainment companies to popular high street brands.

It’s not been easy building The Inspiration Edit. In fact I’ve had to learn many many new skills. I have had to work most days and sacrifice what those with a 9-5 job call down time. I’ve worked whilst being sick. I have chronic illness and where others in my situation might feel making a living is impossible, Ive found a way to overcome this.

I’ve worked hard on producing content, learning all about the technology behind running a successful blog. I’ve studied Pinterest and put years into learning how to grow my social reach and following on different social media platforms.

I have studied and learnt how to optimise a blog post for Google. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is not an easy thing to learn but I now have that sussed and feel I’m quite an expert at it now.

I’ve mastered SEM Rush, Tailwind, google analytics and other software programs that help me to successfully run my blog. It’s not been easy and there is so much to continue learning but I am doing my best to make this dream of mine a success.

Today I heard a speech that was given by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold talked about when he was a young boy. He had a dream. He wanted to become a movie star. He planned to get into body building and set dreams. Yet people laughed. They told him he could not do it.

Arnold was told his accent was not good enough, he was too big, that no one would want to see him in a movie theatre. How wrong were these people. He had a dream and he worked. He worked and worked.

Arnold Schwarzenegger worked in the day, trained in the evening and studied acting at night. He did all he could to achieve his dreams and became the actor and superstar he had always dreamed of.

I too believe we can achieve our dreams. I’ve still got a long way to go until I reach my original goals. It’s not been an easy road and there has been bumps in the road including many knock backs, a lot of rejection, trolls and much more. Its been a real struggle at times and I don’t think just anyone would have the courage and endurance to do what I have.

Arnold Schwarzenegger said,

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.”

It is natural when you have big dreams, big visions and have big goals for people to say I don’t think it can be done. Sometimes and more often than not you will have naysayers telling you that you can’t reach those crazy dreams as they are too crazy. However I know I can reach mine and I will keep working for it through the sickness and difficulties and I will eventually get there.

In 2019 I want to do more Lifestyle content. I want to review more clothing and beauty items with Sylvia and share more inspirational edits and posts about my experiences and life.

I’ve built up a nice collection of recipes and crafts and plan to cut this down to once a week so I can focus on sharing more of my thoughts.

I’ll be working hard on Instagram. I am trying to reach a following of 10K by the end of the year so I can use the Swipe Up Feature that allows my audience to come and read my heartfelt posts and the things I care about.

I’m not limiting myself to a niche. I will be my own niche. My family and our lifestyle will be our niche. Some people will hate me, some do, I am aware of it but some will champion me and support me and appreciate the words I have to share.

I know I can build The Inspiration Edit and no matter what the naysayers say, I won’t listen, I’ll keep on working and reach my dreams. I sure will and even more.

I hope you’ll come along for the ride.

  1. I think we should always ignore the nay sayers and do our own thing. I refuse to be pigeon holed or held back, and reaching for the stars is always the best way to approach anything!

  2. You work so hard on your blog, Angela. You should be so proud of what you’ve achieved over the years. My family still don’t understand how I make a living after all this time. I’m secretly quite glad though as I don’t want them thinking it’s easy and they anyone can do it. We all know that’s not the case 🙂

  3. My Mum always asks me when I am going to get a proper job again – she just doesn’t get it, but it is important to challenge yourself and set goals for what you want to do otherwise they won’t be achieved

  4. I’m definitely along for the ride and this ministered to me. Not about blogging but regarding other areas in my life. I’m my own worst naysayer ?.
