Last week my family bought our first home. It is an older home from the 1950’s and it will need some work to create our dream living space. Improving our house with easy home renovations will not only make a more comfortable place for us to live, but it will also increase the value of our property.

Whilst I have lots of ideas in mind, I’ll be sharing a few top ideas that I have seen work well for others in terms of home improvements and modifications. There are plenty of DIY trends that can increase your property value.

The Kitchen Is the Heart of the Home

One of the most important rooms in the house, and certainly one that potential buyers will focus on, is the kitchen. If your kitchen is outdated or in need of some TLC then it could be worth investing in a kitchen renovation.

A new kitchen can completely change the look and feel of a house so it’s worth considering if you’re looking to add value to your property. Not only will it make your house more appealing to buyers, but you’ll also enjoy cooking in a brand new space!

I would love to renovate our kitchen and add value and appeal to our home.

Bathrooms Are Important Too!

Another key room in the house is the bathroom. Just like the kitchen, potential future buyers will be looking at the bathroom to see if it needs any work.

If your bathroom is looking a bit tired and outdated then it could be worth investing in a new bathroom suite. I plan to create a walk-in shower that has a tiled bench giving us the option to stand or sit while showering.

This would add value to the home and make it easier for those with mobility problems to shower.

Invest in Energy Efficient Improvements

One way to add value to our home and make it more appealing to future buyers is to invest in energy-efficient improvements.

These days, many people are looking for ways to save money on their energy bills so anything you can do to make your home more energy efficient will be beneficial.

Some ideas include adding:

  • Insulation to keep the heat in.
  • Double glazing to reduce heat loss.
  • Solar panels to generate electricity.
  • LED lighting throughout the house.

The very first thing we are saving up for is double glazing. This will keep our home warmer, increase the value of the property and make it more visually appealing. I also hope to add solar panels in the long-term future.

By making these improvements, you’ll not only be adding value to your home but you’ll also be making it more eco-friendly.

Create More Living Space

When buying our home, we bought a house that has the potential to extend. Building an extension and making more rooms and living spaces is a great way to add value to your home.

Many people are looking for extra living space these days so if you can provide that then you’ll be a winner. We plan to extend the kitchen and dining area to create a large open-plan living space in the long-term future.

This will not only be great for us but will also make our home more appealing to buyers if we ever decide to move.

These are just a few ideas that can help you increase the value of your home with easy renovations. By making some simple changes, you can create a more comfortable living space for yourself and also make your house more appealing to potential buyers in the future.
