It’s with great sadness that we learned of the death of Queen Elizabeth the second yesterday. I think the whole world was a little shook as the somber reality of losing one of the longest reigning monarchs in history began to set in. It really is the end of an era.

As most of you probably know, Buckingham Palace has been the primary residence of the British monarch since 1837 and is one of the most iconic buildings in the world. Hundreds of thousands of people visit it every year, myself included.

So, imagine my surprise when my daughter and I we were invited to visit Buckingham Palace after writing to the Queen in 2015. It was a very special occasion and one that I will never forget.

Visiting Buckingham Palace

The first thing that struck me was the grandeur of the building. It’s so much larger in person than it appears in pictures or on television. The second thing was the sheer number of people working there. From the security guards to the tour guides, everyone was extremely professional and welcoming.

As special guests to Buckingham Palace we were asked to come to the front gates and speak to the security guards who would then escort us inside. We were told to wait a few moments nad were taken by buggy from the front gates to the entrance of Buckingham Palace.

Once we were cleared, we were given a tour of the grounds and the inside of the palace. It was breathtaking. I have never seen anything like it in person. The detail and history in every room was astounding. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions.

After our tour, we had tea at the palace cafe and then said our goodbyes. It was an incredible experience and one that I will treasure forever.

The Legacy of Queen Elizabeth

If you ever have the chance to visit Buckingham Palace, I highly recommend it. It’s truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. Queen Elizabeth was an amazing woman who led an extraordinary life. She will be missed by many, but her legacy will live on forever. She was the oldest and longest-reigning monarch in British history and her impact on the world is immeasurable.

Thank you, Queen Elizabeth, for your service to our country and for your dedication to your people. You will be greatly missed.

Long Live the King – Charles Iii

Queen Elizabeth II will be missed but her legacy will live on forever. I am looking forward to seeing King Charles the III, take the throne and lead Britain into the next chapter. Charles is known to be passionate about environmental causes, so let’s hope he can make some real progress on that front during his reign.

I look forward to seeing the next chapter of the royals. Seeing how William and Kate the Duchess raise their children and what initiatives Charles takes on as King. The future of the monarchy is bright and I can’t wait to see what the next few years have in store.

No matter what happens, the British monarchy is an iconic institution that has been around for centuries and will continue to be a major part of British culture for years.
