Looking out for pests is an important part of keeping a clean and safe home. As a homeowner, looking out for pests is one of the most important things to think about. However, many people don’t know what pests they should be paying attention to, which can be frustrating if you’re hoping to combat the pests in the best way possible. This summer, here are five of the most common pests that may very well try to infiltrate your home.

Contents

  • 1. Ants
  • 2. Crickets
  • 3. Mice
  • 4. Snakes
  • 5. Bees and Wasps
  • Conclusion

1. Ants

If you’ve ever had a pest infestation, chances are that the infestation was of ants. Ants are attracted to moisture and food, and you only need to have a little bit out for the ants to come in droves. Food is something that you can typically manage yourself by keeping your food stored appropriately, but water can be something else entirely. Check your basement and crawl space to see if you may need to encapsulate it to reduce moisture.

2. Crickets

Of course, the most common way you might know that you have crickets in your home is because you can hear them chirping. However, they typically enter your home due to heat and light sources inside the home. Paying attention to those heat and light sources will help you keep crickets out.

3. Mice

One of the reasons you need to pay special attention to rats and mice is the fact that they can reproduce incredibly fast. Just because you only see one mouse in your home doesn’t necessarily mean there’s only one mouse in your home – a family of two dozen could be living in your crawl space. When you see mice, you need to get rid of the entire nest, not just the ones you see.

4. Snakes

Dark, confined spaces are the perfect places for snakes, which means that they often come into basements and crawl inside walls if possible. If there are storms outside, it’s even more likely that you’ll see snakes indoors, as they’ll attempt to hide from the storm by coming into your home. Your best way to keep them out is to make sure your foundation doesn’t have any general openings, even very small openings, as snakes can squeeze into extremely tight spaces.

5. Bees and Wasps

Although these two bugs have very different uses in the natural world, homeowners typically deal with them about the same way. Both bees and wasps can build nests inside crevices in your home foundation, which can lead to bug infestations both inside and outside your home that typically require an expert to investigate.

Conclusion

When you think about what looks great inside your home, you might think about designs and materials. However, avoiding bug infestations is also a significant part of this. If you want your home to look as gorgeous as possible, you need to focus on avoiding pests, which may mean focusing on the health of your foundation
