Heading back to school after the holidays has always been an exciting time for me. Both as a child and now as a parent, I enjoy preparing for the start of the school year and that includes looking for and finding the items my daughter needs to start the school year out just right.

As a child I remember looking through the Argos magazines for the dream school bag, visiting the market place with my parents for uniforms and making our annual trip to the stationary shop to get the supplies we would need for our pencil cases and homework desk.

No matter how old your child is there are things you can buy and find to make the transition back to school easier and they don’t have to be mega expensive. Today I will share five items that can help make returning back to school fun, starting with the essential drink bottle. Be sure to check out this article on back to school hats. I’t’s a great fun idea for kids!

Stainless Steel Drink Bottle

Having a drink bottle for school is super important. As a primary child we were given milk on our break and cups to help ourselves to water.

These days, having a your own water bottle in your backpack is super important. We no longer live in a world where sharing is possible. Kids need to stay hydrated during the school day and they need to do this in a safe way that won’t spread viruses or germs.

Having a stainless steel water bottle is a great idea for kids and teens. You can keep your water cooler for longer and you don’t have to worry about the plastic taste getting into your child’s drink.

We were sent a fantastic metal water bottle from Clintons. They have a number of cute designs which are thermally insulated keeping drinks hot for 7 hours and cold for 12 hours.

Note Pad and Pens

It’s always good to stock up on new pens, notepads and stationary items when going back to school. My daughter loves super cute note books as do I and we can never have enough pens.

The best part about getting new stationary for the school year is choosing your own items. You can visit a store such as Clintons or hop online to order some new items to start the year out well.

Snack Boxes

Learning requires energy and so your child will need a healthy lunch and tasty snacks. You can invest in a small set of snack boxes and add fruit or another healthy treat for your child. If your daughter catches a bus like mine, a snack box can come in handy when she gets hungry.

Even when having school dinners a fruit snack is always a great idea and something I encourage my daughter to have daily.

The School Bag

I loved to start the school year with a new backpack or school bag. Sometimes you won’t need a new one if the old one is still in good condition. We like to use things up in my family and only really replace bags when the old one is worn out. There are several stores where you can buy or order a new bag.

My daughter has had a few fantastic quality bags over the years and I tend to visit Smiggle as I know smiggle bags are high quality and they last a.long time.

New Socks

I’m not sure about you but in my house we have a sock monster who tends to eat the socks, or we just end up with many odd socks in the laundry basket. For this reason I like to buy a new set of school socks for my daughter at the start of the school year.

In fact I buy a few pairs whilst they are on sale and save one for half way through the school year. You can never have enough pairs of socks in my opinion and they are one thing we will be stocking up on in the coming weeks.

What items do you need for your child when they are heading back to school?
