Fantastic Friends Featuring Mary Smith
Welcome to my fantastic friendship series. This is a blog series where I share a post about a friend who has a special place in my life. It’s a record for me and my daughter but also something inspiring which others may enjoy reading. Your also welcome to submit an article yourself about one of your friends.
Fantastic Friendships Two
The first time I met Mary Smith was Christmas Eve 2011. I was feeling heartbroken due to my daughter being stuck in the Foster system and not wanting to spend Christmas alone, I went to the home of Mr and Mrs Smith in Beverly Yorkshire.
This is how I met Mary and her husband Nathan. They had one son and baby girl. Mary was so happy and bubbly and such a joy to talk to. She cheered me up at the most painful of times and we talked and chatted building a friendship which would blossom over time.
On Christmas Day we went to church together and after Christmas we stayed in contact. When I got married in 2013, Mary was there for me, helping decorate and prepare the chapel. She came to my bridle shower, dyed my hair in preparation for my wedding, styled it on the Wedding day and did my makeup.
Best of all Mary went to McDonalds and bought me pancakes for breakfast. Something I will always remember.
In 2014 not long after my family left Yorkshire for Lancashire I found out Mary was pregnant. She and Ethan were expecting their third child. During the pregnancy Mary’s daughter Poppy was diagnosed with Trisomy 18, also known as Edwards Syndrome.
In September 2014, Poppy passed away two days before she was due to be born. As heart breaking as this was and still is, Mary has been an inspiration to me and many others, sharing her experience on her own blog The Hearty Life . Mary has raised awareness and spoken out about baby loss, grief, parenting and surviving.
In 2o15 Mary was a finalist for The Butterfly Awards. We continue to see one another from time to time, usually at baby blessings and maintain a friendship online as blogging friends as well.
Mary is and always will be an inspiration to me. Her’s is a friendship I truly cherish and one I wanted to share here on The Inspiration Edit. I’m grateful for such a fantastic friend in my life.
