Disney has a long and rich history. Even if you’re an avid fan, chances are good that there are things you just don’t know about Disney. Let’s take a look at some fun facts about the history of this beloved franchise.
Disney was born of very humble beginnings. Walt Disney, the founder, was born the fourth of five children and lived in a small town farming community.
Mickey originally had a different name. The Iconic Mickey Mouse first had the name Mortimer. His name was changed to Mickey before his official debut in 1928 in “Steamboat Willie”.
Walt Disney voiced Mickey himself. Mickey first got a voice in 1929 but Walt didn’t like how his character sounded so he did the voice himself from them until 1947. At this point, he said he was too busy to keep doing the voice acting.
Disney holds the record for Academy Awards. He won 22 individual Oscars and had 59 nominations.
Walt Disney almost built a ski resort. When you think of Disney resorts, you probably think of warm locations like Florida and California, but he almost built a ski resort near Sequoia National Park. Those plans were cancelled after his death in 1966.
