Why Does My Child Need To Floss?

Growing up I never flossed. I did not even know what the word floss meant. I remember going to the Dentist and being given a sticker, toothbrush and new toothpaste but there was never a mention of flossing and I guess it’s not something that was ever impressed upon my mind as a child. Last year I visited the Dentist and was told it was important to not just me but for my child to practice flossing.

Why do I need to Floss With Dental Floss?

Dental floss helps to prevent gum disease by getting rid of pieces of food and plaque from between your teeth. Plaque is a substance which can build up causing irritation and inflammation of the gums. This could in turn cause tooth decay and so flossing is a great way to help remove plaque in addition to regular brushing.

Review of Dentek Products

My family started flossing regularly about a year ago. At first we bought the regular flossing string but then we discovered Floss Picks and we have been using these ever since. Regular flossing can help to remove food, reduce tooth decay, remove plaque and fight bad breath.

Last week I was sent some Dental Floss picks and Brush Cleaners to review from Dentek. Sylvia was also sent some Dentek Kids Fun Flossers and we have had an opportunity to test these out and try them.

I really liked the Dentek Sensitive Extra Gentle Floss Picks. They are great for my gums and are a nice minty flavour. The Brush cleaners were also the same flavour and gave a fresh feeling after using them on my teeth.

Sylvia tested out the Dentek Fun Flossers and she really liked them. I think the bright colours make the flossers attractive but the best part was the Wild Fruit flavour. The flossers are really fruity and Sylvia liked this flavour. She preferred these to mint and with 60 sticks in a pack she has enough to last until the end of the year.

So, we will continue to floss and are pleased to be using our new Dentek products. I may just have to buy some more and pop them in Sylvia’s stocking at Christmas.

  1. I never flossed as a kid either, but am now a bit obsessed with it! These look a perfect intro for kids. I try to get my 3 year old to floss too, but it’s a challenge. At least it’s a start that we are practicing! x

  2. These look like a great way to try and encourage a good dental routine for Children, especially because of the bright colours. When all Amelia’s teeth come through I will be sure to try these out, they look fab.
