Can A Blown Double-Glazed Windows Be Repaired?

You’ve probably seen the news stories about how a storm blew out the windows of many homes in Seattle, Washington. You may have also heard that some homeowners are thinking about repairing these broken windows. But before you decide to do so, it’s important to know whether or not you can actually fix them.

The answer is yes – if the window is still intact and just needs new glass, then it can be repaired without too much trouble.

However, if your window has shattered into pieces, then it will be more difficult and costly to repair because there are other factors at play that must first be addressed.

When this happens, most people usually opt for a replacement instead of repair because they want their home to look as good as possible again soon after the breakage.

Get an Estimate

If you’re thinking about replacing your double glazed windows, there are a few things you need to keep in mind.

First, make sure you get an estimate from at least two or three different window replacement companies before you make a decision. This will give you a good idea of what the average cost is for this type of work.

Factor in Installation Costs

One of the best things about hiring a contractor to do your window replacement is that they will remove and dispose of all the old glass and frame materials. It’s important not to forget this part because you will need to factor in these removal and disposal costs when obtaining quotes from contractors.

No matter what type of windows you hire them to install, expect to pay anywhere between $200 to $500 extra for this service.

Keep in Mind the Other Costs

If you decide to go with double glazed windows, make sure you understand what other costs are involved in getting them installed.

This includes the cost of stripping off all of your old window covering (e.g., blinds, curtains) and cleaning the window frames before the installation process begins.

You may also need to pay extra for any new electrical circuitry that’s required to run your blinds or curtains.

Consider the Type of Windows you Need

Another thing to consider is the type of window you want to replace your old ones with.

There are many different types of windows available on the market today, so it’s important to choose one that will fit your needs and style preferences.

Double glazed windows offer a number of benefits that can make your home more comfortable and energy-efficient. Some of the key benefits include:

– Increased insulation:

Double-glazed windows are more effective at insulating your home than traditional single-glazed windows. This means that you’ll be able to save on energy costs, especially during the winter months.

– Reduced noise:

Double glazed windows also help to reduce noise from outside, which can be helpful if you live in a city or other busy area.

– Reduced condensation:

Condensation is a common problem in homes with single-glazed windows, but it is much less likely to occur with double-glazed windows.

Ask About the Warranty

Finally, be sure to ask the window replacement company about their warranty and installation process. You’ll want to make sure that the company is reputable and has a good track record for quality and service.

Factors to Consider

It may seem like a simple idea to just replace the glass pane, but there are other factors that you’ll have to consider. First of all, you will need to buy a new window frame for your replacement piece of glass to fit into.

In addition, the cost to repair a blown window by hiring a professional is going to be far pricier than if you were installing it yourself because they will not only need to remove the old window frame but also require access above or behind it in order to put in the replacement window.

While this sounds easy enough, keep in mind that these windows are over 75 pounds each and often require at least two people – one inside and one outside – for proper installation. If your home does not have a balcony or you cannot climb up to the window, then you will have no choice but to hire a professional.

When it comes down to it, repairing your blown double glazed window is going to be a matter of preference and how much you’re willing to spend.

If the glass is still intact and there’s no other damage then you can easily go through the process yourself without too much trouble.

But if your window has shattered into tiny pieces all-around your house, then you’ll want to consider buying a new one as well as hiring someone who knows how to install it correctly.

Either way, whether or not your blown double-glazed windows can be repaired depends on what kind of shape they are in after the storm.
