Do you believe that your child might be getting too old for a child-restraint seat? Are you confused about which seat is best for you?

A child’s booster seat is the last car seat they will ever use before moving to a basic seat belt. It is crucial to know which booster seat would best fit your child and when you need to start using one.

Proper use of child car seats and booster seats can save lives and reduce major injuries. Without it, children could get severely hurt from an easily preventable problem.

So, to make shopping for a new booster seat easier for you here is some helpful advice:

  • Know When You Need to Make The Change
  • Check Your Country’s Booster Laws and Regulations
  • Spend in a Reasonable Manner
  • Make Sure It Fits

Know When You Need to Make The Change

Firstly, your child’s age is important in determining which type of seat you would need and which is the safest:

  • Below Six Months: Rear Facing Seat
  • Six Months to Four Years: Rear Facing or Forward Facing Restrained Seat
  • Above Four Years: Forward Facing Seat Or Booster Seat

Now, considering that your child is at the very least, 4 years of age and meets the manufacturer’s weight and height requirements, the best and most comfortable option for your child is a booster seat.

It is also important to ensure that your child can sit upright and can use a proper belt for an entire ride.

Check Your Country’s Booster Laws and Regulations

In addition to keeping your child safe, following the law should also be a priority. Requirements for a booster or any kind of child car seat can vary from country to country.

So it is essential to check up on and read the country’s rules. For instance, in Australia, all car seats must comply with Australian manufacturing standards and must have the Australian standards logo sticker present.

Thus in Australia, it is illegal to buy a car seat that does not follow these standards. That is why it is favourable to buy booster seats in Australia or locally in whichever country you may live in.

Spend in a Reasonable Manner

Although it may be desirable to purchase a booster seat that has a higher price tag, you need to remember that a pricier seat won’t necessarily provide more protection.

In most cases, some seats are expensive due to the fact that they are made by a popular brand or the fact that they have an extra cup-holder.

Just make certain that it is a good quality product and has good ratings.

Make Sure It Fits

One of the most important things to check before buying it is if the seat fits in your vehicle. The main point of a “booster” seat is to boost your child up so that the seat belt fits correctly.
By fitting the lap belt on the upper thigh area instead of the abdomen, in an event of a crash, the force of the crash is absorbed by the bones instead of the soft tissues of the stomach which is very vulnerable in children.
