A Bedroom Makeover – Includes gifted blinds
Over the past 4 months we have been stuck indoors due to the national lockdown and shielding rules. Staying at home is something I’m quite used to. In fact I spend most days at home due to my health conditions and most of that time is spent in the bedroom.
Before lockdown began, John and I invested in a new bed and wardrobe. We’ve been married seven years and decided a bedroom makeover would be a good investment, especially as I spend so much time in bed unwell with adrenal insufficiency.
A New Bed and Wardrobe
Our new bed arrived along with a lovely new wardrobe and you’d think being at home John would have had plenty of time to build our new furniture. however things don’t always work out as we expect.
Not long after lockdown began, my husband became unwell. He had all the symptoms of the dreaded “rona” and not long after I came down will the illness too. In fact I struggled to breath and had to get medical support to help me get through the next ten weeks.
Luckily we survived and once I was well enough, John began to build the new bed. However he quickly discovered that the bed base and headboard were the wrong colours and so we had the parts for different beds.
Returning Our Bed
We rang the company we bought our new bed base from and we had to arrange for the bed base to be swapped. Due to lockdown this took a lot longer than you might expect. The new bed arrived and shock horror, it arrived with no feet. Once again we could not build our bed.
Building The Wardrobe
The wardrobe was built and whilst it took a long time I was super pleased. The new wardrobe has a mirror so I can actually see myself and I’ve found this super useful for sitting on the bed and doing my hair.
I love the space in our new wardrobe. We can fit all our clothes and the draws are very spacious. I really was pleased with the new wardrobe. It’s the first fancy one we have ever had.
Building Our Bed
Once the legs were mailed to us for the bed we could finally build our new bed. Of course, when I say we, I mean my husband as he built the bed on his own. The bed is amazing and it’s an ottoman so we have plenty of space to store bedding inside the bed.
New Blinds For Our Bedroom
Sine getting blackout blinds for my daughter last year, I decided I much prefer blinds to curtains. I’m not sure what it is that I like about them. Maybe it’s the novelty of pulling the cord and seeing the blind go up. I do love being able to draw the blind down just enough to let the light in but to block the neighbours from seeing into the room!
Made to measure blinds are in my experience the best option for ensuring the perfect fit, no matter what your window shape and size!
Choosing New Roller Blinds
I wanted to upgrade the bedroom windows and place blinds in the place of our old curtains. I was lucky enough to be gifted three separate blinds for our bedroom windows. I went online at Terrys Fabrics to look at the different types of blinds available.
I chose and ordered the Grey Floral Cluster ready made roller blinds from Terrys Fabrics. These blinds have a subtle white floral pattern on a grey background and have a 3 pass back coating making them great for blocking out sunlight if I need to sleep in the day due to illness.
The roller blinds have an aluminium tube and nylon sidewinder and they are great quality blinds so I am super pleased as you can imagine. Even Sylvia want’s to hang out in the newly updated room!
Fixing The Frame Above The Window
Completing the makeover of our bedroom had yet one more hurdle. When John attempted to add the brackets to the wood above the window, the wood broke. This meant a trip to buy materials to fix the hanging and that took another two weeks.
Finally John was able to hang our beautiful new blinds and our bedroom makeover was complete.
I’m really pleased with the new bed, wardrobe and blinds. It feels really nice to be in a room that is super cosy and peaceful and being in a room with an almost hotel like feel does feel good!
I’m not sure if we would have gotten things sorted quicker if we were not in lockdown but the silver lining is that we now have a beautiful bedroom to spend time in whilst we wait for lockdown rules to ease and whilst I rebuild my strength after a long period of illness.
