8 ways to have fun with your kids and keep them entertained

If you are familiar with the words “Mom, I’m bored” or “Dad, what can I do now?” you may, like millions of other parents, spend a huge chunk of your time trying to think of things to do to keep your kids occupied. Whether it’s during summer break or at weekends, it can be a struggle thinking of activities that are fun and will stop them from becoming bored. Here are 8 ways to have fun and keep your children entertained.

Take part in a charity event

Whether it be a charity fun run or a sponsored swim, involving children in charity fundraising is a great way to support your local neighborhood and keep the children amused. They will love raising money by getting their nearest and dearest to sponsor them, and when they take part in the event, it will be a great day out for everyone involved.

Go on a cycle trip

If it’s a nice day, head out in the sunshine on your bicycles. It’s a great family bonding experience and a lovely way to spend some time outdoors. Pack a picnic and stop somewhere for a well-earned lunch or take a ball and have a kick about in the park before heading home again. Cycling is a fun way to exercise and is popular with kids of all ages.

Get a dog

Getting a dog isn’t a decision you should make without lots of consideration, but if you do decide to get one, then a dog will bring much fun and love to your home. From daily walks to learning how healthy dog food can provide your pet with the vitamins and nutrients it needs, a dog will be a great companion for your kids and will teach them about nurture and responsibility.

Head out for a scavenger hunt

A scavenger hunt is a great way for the whole family to spend a few hours out and about in the fresh air. Before you head off, make a list of the things you want to try and find. Leaves, fir cones, and feathers are usually firm favorites as they are some of the items you are most likely to come across on your travels. Get the kids to spend some time making a list of the things they want to find, or if you are pushed for time, there are loads of scavenger hunt printables online.

Spend an afternoon crafting

If you have space in your garage or home to save old containers, boxes, pots, and such like, they are great for craft projects. Whether it be recycling an old water bottle into a spaceship, or painting and cutting old cereal boxes to make a desk tidy, there are hundreds of things you can do. If you have lots of huge packing boxes, why not get the whole family involved and make a fort for the garden or a puppet theatre. Kids usually adore crafts, and it’s a great way to let their imaginations run wild.

Visit the library For Fun With Your Kids

A library is a great way to teach children about the wonder of books and develop a love of reading. With thousands of books at their fingertips, children can spend a few hours reading or take their time choosing the books they want to read at home. Witnessing our children develop their readings skills or finding authors they adore is a wonderful milestone. If your child isn’t already a member, pop into your local library or give them a ring and enquire about joining. It’s usually free and is a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Movie night

Whilst you can go to the cinema, having a movie night at home can sometimes be even more fun and is also far cheaper. Choose a movie and sit down to relax watching a film together. Snuggling under blankets with a box of homemade popcorn can be a great bonding experience and the kids will love it.

Make a family music video

Older kids in particular love technology so why not make a music video. You don’t even have to be a good singer! There are loads of apps where you can record yourselves lip-syncing and dancing to your favorite tunes, so why not grab your hairbrush and make your very own family masterpiece! The kids will adore the fact that you are getting involved, and you will be making a family memory that can be treasured forever.
