Whether your kids are going back to school or are continuing with their education at home, school books are the basics that will always be in the picture. Kids love to color, and although loving their school books may take more than one approach, making them look attractive is an easy first step. It’s also a great way of showing support for, and interest in, your children’s education. There’s just something special about something that Mom took an interest in, and joint projects in which children also have a say are the best of all. Need ideas? Let’s get into some simple ways to make those school books look loved.

1. Choose Colorful Stickers and Let Your Child Get Creative

Although one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, boring school book covers are – well – boring! Before you cover books with protective plastic, get decorating with aesthetic stickers that will handle regular use and that set a positive mood. Best of all, using stickers allows your child to make his or her own choices. Decorating school books makes for a fun project that builds positive connections with handbooks and exercise books they’ll be using all year long.

2. Free Printable Corner Bookmarks

While we’re decorating school books, let’s not forget the need for bookmarks. They’ll just make life so much easier, and once again, they provide a fertile outlet for creativity. Ordinary bookmarks will do the job, but corner bookmarks are way more fun and do a better job! Use printable templates, colored paper, and be ready to help kids to make their own versions of the original.  It’s not only a great craft project that may see you teaming up with them to make a few extra examples as gifts, but it’s one more way to get them geared for study and proud of their school books.

3. Borrow Pics of Their Favorite Celebrities

If fandom is high on your kids’ agenda, pics of their favorite celebs could be a way to keep them feeling good about their school books and the school work they do. Although their favorite music and film stars may not appeal to you, the point of the exercise is to make those books more appealing for your kids – so they should definitely be the ones to choose. The people they admire form part of their identity and magazines should provide plenty of clippings they’ll be eager to use. So, Math isn’t a favorite subject? What if  Justin Bieber smiles from the cover of that exercise book?

4. Repurpose Gift Wrap

Many of us carefully save bits of gift wrap in the hope that we’ll find a use for it. Here’s an easy one! Instead of using dull, brown paper or a simple plastic sleeve to protect school books, add a touch of festive flair with gift wrap! It’s even better if your child remembers that wrapper fondly – maybe it was used to present a favorite Christmas or birthday gift. Of course, you can also buy new gift wrap, and getting children to choose the colors and designs they like best makes them feel involved and in control of the selection. Mix and match! Add some stickers or pictures – or just go with the pattern that’s already there.

5. Get Creative With Colorful Tape

This nifty school book decorating idea has you covered – and it will cover those school books without the need for an extra protective layer of plastic. Apart from colored duct tape that can be used to make bold patterns, there are wonderful gift tapes with patterns already printed on them. How will you and your child put them to work? Smaller kids will need some help, but they can still say what they like while you get to work with sticking down the strips of tape.

Make Learning Fun

Creating a fun atmosphere to make learning easy takes more than just decorated school books – but it’s a great way to keep attitudes positive and set the scene. New school book? Turn it into a special event and ensure that your kids will be eager to show off their school books – and hopefully – what they learn from them.
