3 Types of Face Masks: When to Use Them and How Often Should They Be Replaced?

With the recent pandemic, people throughout the world will need to wear a face mask until the virus goes away. Health experts explain the benefits of wearing a mask and preventing exposure to COVID-19. A review of the three types of face masks shows consumers how to wear them and when to get rid of them. Choosing the right mask could make all the difference in the world and protect people more effectively.

1. Disposable Surgical Masks

Studies show that the disposable surgical masks block out at least 60% of particles in the air and prevent direct contact with the mouth and nose. The products are constructed of paper-like fibers that are available as white or blue masks. They are a great choice to decrease the spread of respiratory infections and offer better protection than standard cloth masks. While they are not the same high-grade masks worn by most medical professionals, the masks are effective in reducing the spread of serious viruses such as COVID-19 and coronaviruses. Consumers can learn more about Disposable Face Masks by visiting a supplier now.

The surgical masks are made for one wear, and consumers that wear them should dispose of the masks after they have worn them. The masks are not manufactured for wash and wear, and washing the masks will compromise the fabric and cause it to fall apart. People who want to use the surgical masks to protect them from COVID-19 should wrap the masks in plastic when they place them in the trash. This prevents others from becoming exposed.

2. Cloth Masks With Filters

The cloth masks are more effective than homemade fabric masks or cloth masks that do not have filters. These masks are constructed of 100% cotton that is comfortable to wear and help the patient block their mouth and nose from particles without feeling smothered. With the filters, the masks prevent particles in the air from reaching the nose or mouth.

These cloth masks can be reused, but it is recommended that the wearer wash the masks in their washing machine on high heat. This will kill any bacteria or germs that are on the masks. If the filter becomes damaged, the consumer will need to purchase a new filter to replace it. If the mask itself becomes damaged, the person needs to buy another mask. It is not recommended that they wear the mask more than once before washing it.

3. Homemade Fabric Masks

Homemade fabric masks are creative and often feature interesting patterns. They are a great option for people of all ages, and consumers may choose any patterns or designs they prefer. When it comes to creating fabric masks, the person needs to ensure that there are at least three layers of fabric. With three layers, the person has adequate protection against particles in the air that can expose them to COVID-19.

Fabric masks shouldn’t be worn more than once between washings. The material used to create the masks determines how the masks should be washed. It is not recommended that people should wear masks created of any materials other than cotton or paper products like surgical masks.

Face masks are a must with the current global pandemic, and people should wear them to protect themselves and others from the virus. When choosing a mask, it is critical for consumers to distinguish the uses of all face masks and what options provide them with the best protection.
