Portrait Photography Tips The Portrait Project
“You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” Kahlil Gibran
Taking a photo of your child is never easy and often people tell me my child is so photogenic and she smiles perfectly every time. That really is not the case. Sometimes my daughter does not want her photo taken so we have to take images in batches as and when she is happy to do this. I would never want to force Sylvia to have a photo taken if she didn’t feel comfortable.
My daughter most enjoys having her photo taken when she is wearing lovely clothes and when she feels pretty. She also loves to have photos when she is playing and having fun. I think the more natural the photo the better.
However it is not going to be easy to get the lovely happy smiling photos I’d like every time. We have to use our imagination and be creative. For example when taking photos of Sylvia for our Rocco Dress Photo shoot we told her to pretend to be a kangaroo and jump around in her dress.
Then my hubby snapped away catching the crazy shots of Sylvia being a Kangaroo and acting a little nutty. The thing is in between these shots we got the laughing smiling pictures which made great pictures for our review. However these Kangaroo and fun photos are the “real ones” which Sylvia loves.
So with that said, I hope you enjoy this weeks Portrait project and learn a few home truths, that to get the good pictures you have to take many shots and sometimes the good ones may not be the ones you expect.
Also, having fun is what photography should be about when it comes to my child and so that is what we aim to do.
