First Day of School the Portrait Project

It’s not the perfect photo and this is over 4 years old now but today I wanted to share my daughter’s first day of school. This was back in 2012 and I remember the day as if it were yesterday.

Starting school for Sylvia was an exciting moment in her life. Sylvia had only been home with me 6 weeks due to spending 9 months with Foster carers and being able to take my child to school without scrutiny and see her on her first day was so special.

First day of school

I remember researching the different schools in the area. We were in Yorkshire at the time and reading the Ofstead reports to get an idea of the best place to send my child. We were kind of lucky. We got our first choice of school straight away.

I know not all parents can send their kids to the school they opt for but I’ve never appeared to have an issue with this. When we moved to Lancashire Sylvia came to a new school. She has attended her new school for 3 years now and it’s absolutely brilliant. I wouldn’t have a single thing to complain about.

I feel blessed that my daughter has a fantastic school, that she is getting a good education and has awesome teachers. The parent will always in my mind be the first teacher and I’ll do my best to help my daughter along but it sure is great to know she is getting a good education, the best I can find for her in the area we live.

  1. What a lovely throw back photo and such an important memory. Where we live it’s a nightmare to get your first choice of school. We didn’t and opted to send the boys to private school as the one we were offered was awful.
